About Scatterhouse

Scatterhouse Studio is an art-based project or experiment dedicated to building community, navigating the complexities of loneliness and scattered minds, while bringing imagination into self-inquiry and healing. It is designed for individuals who cherish solitude and require it to function, created by someone who has never truly felt a sense of belonging in community—whose experiences with isolation and disconnection have profoundly shaped this project.

The name Scatterhouse reflects the multifaceted nature of creativity—a nod to the scatterbrained, the multi-interested, and the random wildness inherent in the creative process. It also resonates with the spontaneous joy of bursting into laughter, capturing the essence of unexpected delight that art can bring.

Here, art is our entry point. Art is gentle. It’s universal. It allows us to imagine the possibility of healing, of slowly building a tolerance for being with others, and of remembering how to be both authentic and supported simultaneously. But the catch is, we must slow down, leave spaciousness to experience this magic!

Scatterhouse is a community of seemingly random and playful elements that are ultimately interconnected.

  • It’s a place where we explore non-verbal forms of connection, unlearning and healing—through creativity, nature, dreams, and play.

  • It’s a space where solitary activities, the things you already do alone, can become shared experiences.

  • It’s an invitation to collaborate on a project or simply create alongside someone else, finding support in the quiet presence of another.

Even when words fail, together, we can build a space where creativity, curiosity, and care come alive.

This work is not a singular path but an ever-evolving experiment, an umbrella of ideas and offerings designed to meet people where they are. Whether you’re drawn to the intimacy of one-on-one collaboration, the shared energy of group art experiences, the inspiration of a workshop, or the connection of a creative community, there’s space here for you.

We believe that humans are not the centre of the universe but powerful pieces of it. Like leaves in a forest or waves in the ocean, we are intertwined with everything around us. This belief drives how we work: with creativity and a deep reverence for life’s natural rhythms—the cyclical, the fleeting, and the enduring. Not everything is meant to last forever, and that’s part of its beauty.

What You’ll Find Under This Umbrella

  • Sacred vulnerability: A safe, nurturing space to explore honesty, creativity, and connection without the pressure of perfection.

  • Creative difference: Offerings that don’t follow trends but reflect the heart and depth of who you are, focusing more on the process than the product.

  • Depth of play: Embracing humour, joy, and the ridiculous as medicine. Learning from kids, pets, and elders who keep the dreamer alive. True silliness brings us closer to the depths of our grief, where joy and sorrow meet in healing connection.

  • Thoughtful creation: A process that honours natural cycles, embracing care and intention over permanence.

  • Diverse pathways: From one-on-one sessions to group workshops, community, and collective art exhibits, there are many ways to engage with this work.

  • Intentional collaboration: Together, we’ll create something that feels true to you—authentic, meaningful, and deeply aligned.

This is a living, breathing project—a way of exploring how we can grow our capacity to connect with ourselves, each other, and the wider world. We intentionally slow down from demand and consumption that can lead to burnout. A way of finding, sharing, and leaving meaningful, playful, and beautiful pieces of humanity as we go along. Things change, are created to fall apart, to fail, to shift or transform.

If this resonates with you, I invite you to step under the umbrella and explore what we can create together.

Our Mission.

Scatterhouse Studio recognizes all forms of creative arts practices (including visual arts, sound, movement, writing, play and theatre) as a necessity over luxury. Engaging individuals of all abilities in the transformative power and magic of the creative process. Our mission is to empower and enlighten our community through artistic exploration, valuing the process as much as the product. By embracing creativity, we navigate conflict and suffering, fostering renewal and growth, and cultivating empathy across all forms of life. We invite you to join us in this journey of creative exploration and collective healing.

Our Vision.

Our vision is a community where the move towards authentic self-expression and creative contribution shape a vibrant society. We believe in the power of art to inspire transformation and resilience, fostering a collective strength that transcends individual experiences. Through exhibitions and collaborative projects, we aim to cultivate an environment where every act of creation enriches our understanding and deepens our connection, paving the way for a healthier, more deeply embodied world.

 FAQs

  • Expressive arts therapy may have an unfortunate name that sounds clinical and only ‘expressive’, but it is truly a magical, inclusive and transformative method. It’s a way of showing up with gentleness to hold the heavy, painful, and confusing emotions and experiences we carry. When intellectual questions fail to provide answers that soothe or satisfy, the arts step in with their ability to be with complexity and offer a kind of medicine that words cannot.

Through intermodal arts practices (such as poetry, drama, visual arts, sound, movement, play, storytelling, photography, eco based practices), something always happens—whether it’s clarity, relief, or a new perspective. There is no “right” way to participate; even the simplest acts can lead to surprising depth and insight. The possibilities within the arts and imagination are endless, making this a profoundly healing and grounding practice.

High sensitivity, Low skill. You absolutely do not need any prior experience to participate. The work meets each individual where they are at now!

  • Many neurodivergent individuals prefer object-based communication over traditional social communication. Object-based communication involves connecting through shared focus on an object or activity rather than direct verbal or social interaction. This can feel more natural and meaningful, allowing for genuine connection without the pressure of navigating complex social dynamics. By engaging with objects, materials, or shared creative processes, we open up new pathways for connection that honor neurodivergent ways of being.
